Changing Bit By Bit

Earlier this week I had a doctor’s appointment.  When my doctor finally entered the room, I was totally amazed at how different she looked.  She looked absolutely amazing!  I have been going to her for the past two and a half years, and during that time she has been on a quest, to lose weight and get healthy.  During this two and a half years she has lost close to one hundred pounds.  Which is quite the accomplishment!

I had noticed the gradual changes that were taking place, but now all of a sudden she no longer resembles the same person that I initially met.  Her body is totally different.  When I saw her this time, her face looked completely different as well.  When I say completely different, I mean to the point that I was thrown for a minute when she walked into the room.  I finally noticed her wedding ring and realized that it really was her.  Now that’s a transformation!

Later that evening the thought came to me, that this is exactly how God changes us, when we decide to surrender our lives to him.  Bit by bit we become different.  The way we think changes.  Our desires change and we become less consumed with our own desires and more concerned about how we can please him.  Our attitudes towards others even starts to change.    Soon to those who knew us before we became followeres of Christ, we become unrecognizable, and thats a good thing.  We become new creatures, that are starting to look more and more like our Savior.   We even start to exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit, in the way we act and respond to others.

Know this, we will never completely reach perfection on this side of heaven, but we can certainly start to resemble the one that we follow.  By living a life that is totally committed, surrendered and wholeheartedly dedicated to our Christian walk, the world will see the transformation that comes with becoming a follower of Christ.   Yes we are changing bit by bit!

17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.[a]

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
