Lessons I Learned From Eve’s Story

Genesis 3:1-19

  1. Satan always tempts us with something that God has forbidden us to partake of.
  2. Satan said just enough to cause Eve to doubt what she knew that God had told her.  Eve’s doubt caused her to be ungrateful for all that God had already provided.  Beware of Satan’s tactics.  He takes a lot of truth and mixes a lie with it to lure you into his trap of sin and disobedience.
  3. Eve’s disobedience caused her to feel guilt and shame.  Sin holds us in bondage through guilt and shame, until we repent and ask God for forgiveness.   Sin causes a chasm between us and God.
  4. Blame shifting is the result of not wanting to take personal responsibility for our actions.  Eve blamed the serpent for her disobedience and Adam blamed Eve.  They did not take personal responsibility for their actions.
  5. The consequences of our sins are far reaching. Eve’s sin affected the entire human race.
  6. One of the consequences of Eve’s sin was fear.  After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God because they were afraid.  Sin always brings out negative emotions.
  7. God gives us direct and very clear instructions and commands.  There are no gray areas.
    Genesis 2:15-17
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
  8. No sin escapes punishment.  God will punish us for being disobedient.
    Romans: 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord
     Hebrews 10:26
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
    9. Even when we have sinned and strayed away, God still loves us.
    Hebrews 8:38

  1. Just as God sacrificed an animal to cover Adam and Eve, so they would not be ashamed of their   nakedness, God sacrificed His Son whose blood covers us, and He forgives us of our sins.
