Spread Some Love

Spread Some Love
1 John 4:10-12
10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

This past Friday my husband and I went to our local Oncology Center and passed out hand creams and foot creams to the cancer patients.  It was such a joy to see their expressions when they realized that we were giving them gifts.  Some were actually sitting in their recliners receiving their infusion at the time. They may have been expecting it to be another routine day at chemo, but it wouldn’t be.

You see they were about to experience what it felt like to be loved and thought of by perfect strangers and boy did they love it!  It gave my husband and I pure joy to see their faces light up like Christmas trees.  One gentleman stood to his feet and shook my hand in a moment of gratitude. Everyone that received a gift was so appreciative.

What I realized from this experience is the more gifts that we passed out the happier we became also.  Not only did we bless them, but we were blessed by the experience as well.  The memory of their twinkling eyes and their broad smiles will be etched in our memory forever.  It truly is more blessed to give than to receive.

35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
