A Pandemic New Year

Proverbs 16:3
Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself.[a]  Then every plan you make will succeed.

As I sit and write today, it’s a couple of days before New Year’s Day 2022.   Who would have ever thought at this time a year ago, that we would still be reeling from the effects of Covid, and now the new Omicron virus?

Because our world is still in a pandemic, New Year’s celebrations for many will look different again this year.  It will be much quieter than years past I am sure.

Keeping this in mind, I would like for you, not to focus on what you can’t do this New Year’s.  But instead focus on how blessed you are to still be here, and here in your right mind at that.   Take this opportunity to enjoy a quiet relaxing day.  Start by thanking and praising God, for allowing you to witness another New Year roll in.  Remember thousands didn’t make it.   Consider yourself truly blessed, and approach our King with a grateful heart.  God loves it when we express our gratitude to Him.

This is a great time to sit and write some of your thoughts down and to pray and ask God for protection, provision, and guidance for the coming year.  It is also a great time to consult with God, about the dreams that he has placed in your heart.   Get still and listen for his sweet but powerful voice.   As you wait in stillness, you will start to realize what your goals should be for the New Year.  Stay encouraged, knowing that if you are still here, He still has a purpose for your life.  Listen for your assignment, and surrender to His holy and perfect will.  When you do this and move in obedience to all that He will ask of you, you can absolutely count on having a great year.

Will you be without difficulties or challenges this year?  No, you won’t be.  You will absolutely experience some of both.  But when you are surrendered to God, even during your difficult times, you can have a life that is peaceful.   Make your first commitment of the New Year, to serve God no matter what.  By doing so, you will reap rewards that you could not have ever imagined.

 My prayer is that you are simply blessed beyond measure in 2022 and that you look for, and see God’s hands working in all that you experience in the coming year.  Whether good or bad, I pray that you will choose to believe, that He will work out all things that happen to you, this year for your good.   And trust and believe that He loves you deeper and wider than you will ever know.

May God bless you with the happiest of New Year’s, and may you be safe at every turn!

Nuggets From 2021 And Preparation For 2022

WOW! Can you believe that another year is quickly coming to an end?  It seems that by the time I get used to writing the correct year on my paperwork, it’s time to start over again.  It makes me wonder where on earth the time is going.

Today I just want you to take a few moments and reflect back on this past year.  I would like for you to ask yourself a few questions (Basically this could be considered as a self-evaluation).  Be willing to take a look at the good the bad and the ugly that have happened in the last twelve months and be gut-level honest with your answers.  Hopefully, this will help you to assess what you would like to happen differently in your life in 2022.  Most importantly pray and ask God for wisdom for each new day that He blesses you with.

 1.  What are the things that you are grateful for that happened in 2021?
 2.  As you look back on this past year, what things would you have done differently in 2021?
 3.  What things are you eagerly looking forward to in 2022?
 4.  Was there a time during this past year that you know for a fact, that had it not been for God’s intervention you would not have made it?
 5. What are you thankful for that God did not allow to happen?
 6.  What are the life lessons or nuggets that God revealed to you in 2021?
7.  What are you willing to commit to doing each day in 2022 that will help you to grow closer to God in the New Year?8.  What are the areas that you have found it hard to be obedient in?

10. What do you feel God is calling you to do in 2022?

The Blessings Of Christ Birth
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, I would like to share just a few of the blessings that came with His birth.   I thought of five wonderful blessings right away, and they are Love, Joy, Hope, Peace, and Forgiveness.
These are the things that really make His birth special.

God unselfishly sent His son, to sacrifice His life, so that we would have all of these things made available to us. All he asks is that we believe upon son Jesus Christ, and accept Him as our Lord and Savior.

So this Christmas as you sit and open your gifts with family and friends, think of Him, the ultimate gift.  When you gather to eat your Christmas meal, remember that He came into this world, that you may have life, and have it more abundantly.  What more could we ask for?

 What has His love, joy, hope, peace, and forgiveness meant to you personally?  I want to encourage you to take a few minutes on Christmas Day and write down what these five things have meant to you personally.  It is a great way to spend time with God, by reflecting on the joys of being a Christian.  It is also a great way to remember just how special His birth is to you.  The blessings of His birth are not just experienced on Christmas Day, but every day.  It is definitely the gift that keeps on giving.   Yes, every single day we are impacted by His love, joy, hope, peace, and His forgiveness.   So no matter what happens in your life, remember you are still blessed beyond measure.  Only God could provide these wonderful blessings that continue to give.

I hope that you have a Merry Christmas!   May God continue to richly bless you, as you experience daily the evidence of His love for you.  Remember, there is no greater gift!

This is the time of year when most women are really gearing up to feather their nest for Christmas.   Some already have their Christmas trees up, and beautifully decorated.   The Christmas lights have been hung inside and out, and their Christmas stockings are hanging from the mantel.  Their candy dishes are full, and the gifts are wrapped and embellished with large pretty bows. The only thing left to do is to decide the Christmas Dinner menu.

For others, however, all of this Christmas feathering is a bit overwhelming, and it may cause some serious stress and anxiety. If that is the case for you, I want to encourage you to take a minute and just breathe.  Sit down and make a list of all the things that you need to do.   Then do those things at the pace that makes you feel comfortable, and that is best for you and your family. 

Don’t get so caught up in the Christmas shopping and baking, that you forget to get still and spend a few moments with God each day.  Even on your most hectic day, your time with God will calm you down and keep you centered on what’s really important. It will help you not be so stressed out, and you will have more clarity to move forward with your Christmas plan.

Also, another thing that helps you feel better this season is to focus on someone besides yourself.  Who do you know that could use some Christmas joy this season?   There are opportunities all around us to bless others. When we bless others, we ourselves are encouraged, and things in our life won’t seem quite so bad after all.

Remember the real joy of Christmas is Jesus.   Everything else comes in a very distant second third or fourth after Him.   So don’t get too caught up, in the hustle and bustle of the season that you forget that Jesus really is the reason for this season.  Have a Merry Christmas, and enjoy your time celebrating the birth of Jesus with family and friends.

November is one of my favorite months of the year.   Not only is it the month that we celebrate Thanksgiving, but it its also the month in which the Holiday Season starts.  I love the family gatherings, and of course, the food is wonderful too!  What I really enjoy is hearing what others are grateful for this time of year.  More so than ever, it seems that this is when most people hit pause, and really think about how blessed they are.

Oh, To Be Content

Have you ever gone through a season when life seemed absolutely unbearable?  Have you ever become impatient with God, because He was moving way too slow.  Could it be that you are just simply disenchanted with the way your life is going right now?  If your answer is yes to any of these questions, today I would like to visit with you briefly about what it means to be content.

 When you go to your dictionary and look up the word content, you may see the following as a definition;  in a state of peaceful happiness, satisfied with a certain level of achievement, and not wishing for more, a state of satisfaction.

In Philippians 4:11 Paul says I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances, a little bit later in 4:13 He says that; I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.  After thinking about this, I have personally come to the conclusion, that Paul’s contentment was based not only on his trust in God but in his trust in God’s character. He had experienced God’s faithfulness through numerous circumstances, and he had seen the heart of God throughout His journey.

Being content is not always easy.   But if we just think back, and reflect on all of the times that God has been faithful to us in the past through the hard times, it helps us to remain hopeful for our future.   Contentment, in my opinion, can be simple, trusting while you are waiting.  Trusting that when the time is right, God will change your set of circumstances, and if He chooses not to, you are still trusting that He will only do what is best for you. Either way, trusting God is the real source of contentment and inner peace.  As you spend more and more time with God, you will grow to trust Him more and more.

Today, I want to encourage you to seek His face daily.  Choose peace and contentment over stress and worry. Remember, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, and that means even going through the hard stuff.

11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Last Wednesday I had to go to a doctor’s appointment.  I woke up early in a great mood.  This was a great thing because honestly, I am not a morning person.  I got dressed and headed out the door for my appointment.  When I got to the medical facility everyone that I came in contact with, was so kind and extremely helpful.  I was having a great day!

I had to have a blood draw, and later meet with a nurse practitioner.  Afterward, I was instructed to go to another area of the medical facility.  As I went to my seat, I had a strange experience.  I had to walk in front of an older lady who was already seated.   As I approached her, we both made eye contact.  I automatically looked at her, and smiled, and said hello.  She had no response.  She just looked at me.  Initially, I thought that maybe she couldn’t hear me, or even see the smile that I gave her because it was all covered by my mask.  She continued to look at me, but there was still no response.  I thought maybe she didn’t hear me.  I did not want to appear rude, so I have spoken to her again, this time a little louder and she gave me the same look.  This time, however, it was more of a stare.  It was a look that said,  I see you, but I don’t care to speak to you.  Even after I had taken my seat she kept staring at me, as though she deliberately wanted me to know that she was watching me.

For a moment I wondered; what if she is deaf and she simply can’t hear me, or could she possibly have a mental issue.  Well, that was cleared up pretty quickly, when a nurse came over to assist her and she was extremely rude to the nurse.  She was so rude that another nurse had to step in and get involved.  After seeing this encounter,  it became very clear to me that not only could she speak, but that she could also hear.

There was a gentleman sitting across from me, who spoke as soon as I took my seat.  He seemed to have been a very friendly man.  He made a bit of small talk, before reaching into the pocket of his jacket, and pulling out his Gideon Bible to read.  When he left, a very nice lady took the seat that he had been sitting in.  She and I really connected, we talked and talked, until it was time for me to go.   We even shared our contact info.  All the while the older lady who refused to speak to me,  kept watching as I made friends and interacted with other patients that were there that day.

You see a long time ago, I learned that it’s not what happens to me, but how I respond to what happens to me that matters.   I could have easily fallen into Satan’s trap, and let her lack of response to the kindness that I had extended to her, ruin my day.   I simply would not allow this lady, to ruin a perfectly beautiful day, that God had blessed me with.

Later that day as I reflected on my morning, some things came to mind that I have listed below.  I hope that if you ever encounter a similar situation the following thoughts will be of help to you.

1.  No one knows how much pain the lady who would not respond to me, could have been in, or how uncomfortable she was.  I do remember her screaming out at one of the nurses that something about her garment was making her feel uncomfortable.  We have to remember that we never really know what a person is going through.  Don’t judge!
2.  When someone is rude or dismissive to you, don’t allow it to ruin your day.  I would have missed the joy of meeting and making friends with the other lady if I had become angry or got a bad attitude regarding the first lady.
3. Always be kind.  No matter what, let your little light shine. Always be the bigger person.
4.  Pray for people who act ugly towards you.
5.  When things like this happen, give it to God.  Choose to be grateful for the blessing of another day, that God has given you to enjoy.  Time is precious, don’t waste a minute of it, angry and upset over things that you cannot control.  Remember, the one thing that you definitely cannot control is another person’s actions.

Lately, I have been reading two books regarding the way that Satan works.  What I have learned is the only weapon that he has, are lies that he tells us.  And they only work, if we choose to believe them.  He tells us lies to
create doubt and fear inside of us.  When we are stuck in doubt and fear we become ineffective.

We all have a choice as to whom we will believe and who we will serve.   We must choose wisely because who we believe, affects how we move through life.  We will either walk in fear or in faith, based on what and who we believe.  We will either lead a life of victory or a life of defeat, based on our beliefs.  Today I encourage you to study God’s word so that you are very clear on His promises and His character.  This way you will know when something contradicts God’s word or His character.  Anytime you see or hear anything that does not line up with God’s word, you know that it’s straight from Satan.  Don’t fall for his lies.  God has a better plan for your life, so look up, not down.
We are daughters of the King, and we must believe and live like we are.

Savor Every Moment
Yesterday my daughter drove me to a doctor’s appointment. As I rode in the car the sunshine was beaming through the windows on my face, and it felt absolutely wonderful.  The weather was perfect!  It was about 78 degrees out, and it was just a glorious day.  Even though the air conditioner was on, I took a moment and rolled down my window just to breathe in the fresh air. I wanted to take it all in. I didn’t want to miss a single thing about yesterday.  A few of the trees have started to change colors here, and the timing is perfect because it was also the first day of Fall. Fall is absolutely by far, my favorite time of year.  I was careful to look at the gorgeous trees and the beautiful clear blue sky, as we drove by.   I enjoyed looking at what the Master Artist was creating.  When I see days like yesterday where the weather is just absolutely perfect, I see it totally as a gift from God. Of course, we know that every day is a gift from God, but I think days like that, are considered a special gift from God.

So after getting back from the doctor’s office and taking a short nap, I decided to continue my self-care time by resting in my comfy chair. While sitting there, I decided to scroll through Facebook to see what was going on.  And that’s when my day took a turn.  I saw that a friend that I had not spoken to within about three years, had passed away from pneumonia at only 46 years of age.  Needless to say, I was totally shocked!   Her husband is now left to raise their only child who is about 8 years of age.

Last night as I thought of her, and how she enjoyed traveling, decorating her home beautifully, going to concerts, riding motorcycles with her husband, and oh let’s not forget shopping for the most gorgeous of clothes for she and her daughter, I was happy that she had lived a very full life in her short 46 years.  I was happy that she had not put a thing on hold.  She absolutely loved being a mom and a wife. She loved cooking from scratch and trying new recipes.   She struggled with some health issues, so she always prepared very healthy meals, for her and her family. Her husband absolutely adored her, and the feeling was so mutual.

I thought of her most of the night.  I remember hearing that death is for the living, and I can truly say that an unexpected death gets our attention like nothing else. It causes us to go deep in thought and to reflect.  Last night as I laid in bed, I remember thanking God for my day.   After hearing such sad news about my friend, I was so glad that going to the doctor was not just another ride in the car, but I was truly glad that I had savored every moment of my ride. Going forward I want to really be present and alert as I go through my day.  I don’t want to just go through the motions, I want to enjoy each day that God gives me. I want to thank Him for allowing me to open my eyes to each new day. I want to savor every experience.   I want to be present in every moment.  Ladies I don’t want to miss a thing!

We all know that we will leave this earth one day. What we don’t know is when or how, and that’s one of the mysteries of death. But be clear, death is certain!  So I encourage you to live a full life starting today. Don’t put the things that you want to do on hold. Figure out a way to do the things that are important to you or that you are passionate about.  Don’t assume that you have time.  As you start this process, start with time with God each and every day. Pray for His divine favor over your life.  Ask Him to remind you to slow down and savor every moment.  Even when life is hard, and those days will come, trust God and try to savor your day anyway.  Don’t let the enemy steal your joy. Remember there is a blessing in every day, even the hard days.
